Well As It Goes

Posted by X

Games Games Games.... Why why why, They have the whole big big build up and then they just let us down... ROCK BAND 2 for example Rock Band was released in NZ 1 year after it was released in US... Rock Band 2 hasn't been released yet. It is soo annoying.
At the moment the moment My gaming is pretty much just Music games.. I am so into them. But I have got my pre-order on Assassins Creed 2 Black Edition for PS3 can't wait for that one...
TV is not to far away…
I was playing Mass Effect today, played it for about an hour. When I chose to nuke some bugs and left the shield down and died… Oops I had forgotten to save. There goes a wasted hour. I’m not looking forward to work tomorrow, we have a big finance going at the moment, So it will most likely be really busy.

Prince of Persia Review For The Xbox 360

Posted by X

945943_101783_front This game has been disputed against since the first trailer came to air. How can they change the prince after the Award winning Sands of Time?
Trilogy. Have the Cartooned him, Have they destroyed the fabric of time and space. NO. This game is about a completely different guy. Supposedly.

Prince of Persia is an action-adventure and plat-forming video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released on
December 2, 2008 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and was released on December 9, 2008 for Microsoft Windows.
The game is set in ancient Persia, although the exact century is not revealed. In the game, the player assumes the role of the Prince,
whose name is not revealed in the game. The Prince is accompanied by a girl named Elika,  800px-PoP_Prince_and_Elika_runningwhom he met after a large sandstorm diverted
him from his course and he ended up in a mysterious land. Players traverse many different environments using the Prince's acrobatic abilities to scale walls and even crawl on the ceilings. Throughout the journey, players combat various enemies as they attempt to cleanse the land of corruption.
I Played this game on the Xbox 360.

My first impression of the game is that it looked allot like the game Okami. Because the entire game has a watercolour effect on the graphics Now this game has tried to take a less linear approach to the storyline.
800px-PoP2008_Prince-and-Elika Having to traverse a very long way to your mission point. Only for it to be a boss battle, and for it to get you a little closer to the end of the game.
and you do this not once, not twice, but about 10 + times. It gets very repetitive very fast. And you fight the same four bosses at least 5 times. Another thing that was very annoying is that this game is based in Persia. A distant land... yet all the characters speak like Americans partner.
That ripped a big hole in my bag of immersion.

As you have gathered a game that gets good grades from me is a game with good immersion. If it lacks that spark it better make up for it in another way. The Sands of Time trilogy made up for their lack of immersion but creating a kick ass combat system. You can us walls, pillars and ledges to fight your enemy. Using walls to flip behind them. Using pillars to spin around on and attack your enemies and Ledges to pull tricky moves where you push them off. Plus in their later game they had the Quick-time combat. This added a small action where you could Instantly kill an opponent by performing a stealthy move and slitting their throat. Any way back on task, in Prince of Persia, they thought that that system needed a revamp... (hello anyone home) NO it didn't. So what do they replace it with, A tekken style slow combat system. Where you have four main attacks Sword, Acrobatic (just jumping and hitting with sword) Claw and magic plus block. That was a big no-no but good old Ubisoft makes another grand decision this falls back on them. They should have just used the gameplay elements from the Sands of Time Trilogy.

In this game they recreated the Following NPC. Usually in games where you have some person follow you they talk the whole way, Making you just want to kill them. But Elika is quiet and comes in handy when you need to make extra long jumps. The Prince cannot "die" in this game, as800px-PoP_Acrobatic_Gameplay Elika will save him from any danger and bring him back to the last safe point of the game. For example, if the Prince slips and misses a jump, instead of falling to his death, Elika will grab him, and set him back on the last stable platform that the Prince stood on. So basically just like a checkpoint. If the Prince dies in combat Elika will save you but also allow the enemies to heal.

So here is the story for the game:
The adventure begins as the Prince is caught in a fierce sandstorm while seeking his donkey. The Prince, unable to see because of the sand, stumbles into Elika, who requests that he follow her into a temple at the centre of the kingdom. When they arrive inside the temple, Elika's father destroys the tree of life, which begins to free the god Ahriman, who was imprisoned by the god Ormazd, whom the Ahura worship. With the tree of life destroyed, Ahriman begins plaguing the land with Corruption. Don't want to say too much.... Or I will spoil you.

All and all I say that this is a good game. (I have decided to not use numbers to rate games anymore... I will not give in to conformity)
So this is a game I would say that Prince of Persia fans should play. It will prepare you for the future.
It has a good look graphically and has an all round comforting sense. As if it was giving you cookies and warm milk next to a fire, But it
didn't do it for me.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Review

Posted by X

Uncharted Ever wanted to live like a Treasure Hunter. Travelling to exotic locations in search of treasure, Traversing deadly cliffs and narrowly escaping enemies. Well in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune you can.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is an action-adventure video game developed by Naughty Dog, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Combining platforming and third-person shooter elements, the game charts the journey of protagonist Nathan Drake, supposed descendant of the explorer Sir Francis Drake, as he seeks the lost treasure of El Dorado, with the help of Uncharted-charactersfriend Victor "Sully" Sullivan and journalist Elena Fisher.

When you first start Uncharted you are immersed into a cinematic experience that delivers and has immersion. Naughty Dog the company behind the legendary Crash Bandicoot series has gone all out in this game. It's quirky humour and intense battles form together to make quite a unique game.

Now the gameplay side of things.
Uncharted is a third-person shooter mixed with the 2D-3D platform element. That is probably its primary downfall. While in platform Uncharted_drake_fortressmode, the game has the annoying 3D camera (not all the time but quite allot) which means that some areas that you need to get to are not visible and sometimes completely off screen.

Now the combat system of the game is quite unique it is the usual third person shooter with a melee system fused into it. The game also features a cover system. Where Nate will use walls and pillars as cover and also any object that is about waist height.Uncharted-cover-system

One thing that annoyed me about the the weapon systems is Nate can only carry one pistol at a time, and may also carry one rifle, whilst there is a limited amount of ammo per gun; picking up a different handgun or rifle switches out that weapon for the new one.

This game has several similarities or may even be inspired by the Indiana Jones series and even the National Treasure series. Yet it has its own twist on the treasure hunting genre. The hero Nathan Drake is a Mans-man, he just seems to be really realistic as just an everyday guy.

All and all I give this game a rating of 8 out of 10. For its immersion in gameplay and quality characters. But on the downside it has the Bad camera choices and annoying choices with gunplay.

Rant of Game Physics

Posted by X

Yes making games to be realistic is cool, I do not disagree with that. But sacrificing the story and key gameplay elements, just so you can have
buildings supports break. That I do disagree with. I have noticed this more and more recently that games are focusing less on the story and more on
the graphics and realism.

I remember the days of good games like Monkey Island. Mi1cover

Now this was -wait is- one of the best games I have played. It
doesn't have the best graphics -Heck it runs in dos- but it has a unique and intriguing storyline which carries on into 3 sequels. Yes 3.  And all
of those sequels like the original are great. and tSequalshe physics engine there is none, this is originally a point and click story.

Now we have games like Fracture

Fracture_front  which is based on a new Physics system. Yes the whole games is based on the new Terra-deformation.fracture-20070503033939825-000
When I first saw this game I thought No Way. You can tell a game will lack a good storyline when they either: Include the Physics engine in
Advertising the game or Include it on the Box or as in Fracture keep it as a core gameplay element which the story is based around.

Including a new Physics system in the game but still keeping a good storyline is very rare, Take a look at The Force Unleashed.The_Force_Unleashed Yes it had 2
excellent new Physics systems, And look at the storyline. I would say it nearly had it. If they had spent just that little more attention to detail
they would have had a great game.

The two Physics systems that were introduced are

Pixelux Entertainment's "Digital Molecular Matter" (DMM) for dynamically destructible objects, and NaturalMotion's Euphoria for realistic non-player character artificial intelligence.

A Year in Review

Posted by X

Well in less than 12 hours another year will have passed us by. Quite shocking. So I thought I would take the time to look back at this year.

This year started out quite sad with the death and funeral of Sir Ed. May he Rest in Peace.

It then took a turn with the olympics (the only cool thing I can think of) but this years olympics didn't do it for me.

Then we New Zealanders had our elections yipeeedadooo

Oh and just recently I started a Deviant Art thing cause of my small passion for photography

Go on check it out I know you want to.

Well have a fantastic new year and all that

Fable 2 Review

Posted by X

Fable 2 is a game that has been awaited by many for several years. And I must admit I am/was one of those people.
Here is the general Information about the game:
Fable II is an action role-playing game developed by Lionhead, published by Microsoft Game Studios.
The sequel to Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters, it was originally announced in 2006 and released in October 2008.
The game takes place in the fictional world of Albion, five hundred years after Fable's setting, in a colonial era resembling the time of highwaymen or the Enlightenment;
guns are still primitive, and large castles and cities have developed in the place of towns. Unlike the original, the player may choose to be either male or female.
Creative Director Peter Molyneux has played a major role in presenting this game to the public, as he did in the lead up to the release of the original Fable.

Now onto the actual gameplay.
When I first started playing Fable 2 I was greeted with a marvelous cut scene which showed how the world has changed since the first Fable.
Starting of as a child and Collecting 5 coins, Doesn't that soud very familiar . Yes it is you had to do the same thing in the first Fable.
Working my way through the game I noticed several other similarities between Fable 2 and Fable. I wont go into detail about those for people who haven't yet played the game.

Also one thing I noticed about Fable 2. When Peter Molyneux was advertising this game he promised us it with the universe, but we could at least expect total freedom.
BUT we got quite allot of freedom but not to the extent that Peter was talking about. Such as not being able to kill children. (hey when your evil it is fun) that is taking
away from the freedom of the player.

Also as in Fable those dreaded invisible walls come back. Although the world is more vast than the world in Fable it still limits on some things. As in (Wraithmarsh) when you discover
the ruins of (Oakvale) I really wanted to explore them but sadly an invisible wall blocked my way.

Even though Fable 2 has flaws what game doesn't, All in all Fable 2 offers a New(ish) storyline packed with new characters and introduces a wonderful AI system for you faithful friend your Dog.
I do recommend that if you have a liking to RPGames that you do try this one out. And if you do like it I also recommend looking for that original or the Expanded Fable or Fable: The Lost Chapters.

My final rating is a 9.0 out of 10.
For its Unique system of gameplay, Improved combat system and the many other features that made my gameplay superb. Also for how they developed the storyline to fit in with weather your
character is in a relationship with someone, That is quite unique.
Not a perfect 10 for the slight flaws that the game does have which draw back from its immersion.

My rant on games nowadays

Posted by X

I have notice that games these days are mostly cinematic experiences. Yes it makes a game great in has great immersion. But sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Lets take Heavenly Sword for example. This game had great potential BUT it was too cinematic in a way that it seemed to draw me away from the story. Yes it had those horrible lengthy cut-scenes.

On the other hand there are games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This game is cinematic and doesn't have those lengthy cut-scenes BUT this is a game that lacks in immersion Every time I became completely involved in the game I saw a NPC get stuck on a 2 inch rock. And I was pulled down from my mystical wonderland of oblivion and thrown back into the world of reality.

And there are games in the middle Lets look at Fable 2.This game was promised with the universe from Peter Molyneux but all we got was a master piece of a game. In my eyes anyway. OK it does have its flaws: The main storyline looking allot similar to Fable and those annoying invisible walls and even being promised total freedom and not being able to kill children (Makes me sound like a serial killer, But it is taking away from our freedom). Yet apart from these flaws they made the game a cinematic game that has immersion and no lengthy cut-scenes (in total cut-scenes add up to about 6-7 min's) Yet there is allot of game play-cut-scenes but you can skip those and still walk around while they are happening.

Movie Review of 'Run Fatboy Run'

Posted by X

Yes I know that this is an older movie but I thought I would do a review for it.

This movie is a must see for all fans of the new British humor, especially those who like comedic actor Simon Pegg (from such movies as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead). This movie is based on Dennis Doyle (Pegg) who is overweight and has throwen his ex-fiancee Libby (Thandie Newton) away and she has found another man Whit (Hank Azaria). Dennis believes that he has changed as a man but Libby does not. So Dennis promises her that he will finish a Marathon to prove that he has changed. With the help of his friend Gordon (Dylan Moran) can Dennis finish the race?
This is a movie packed with laughs, and is not cheesy like the new comedy movies that are out. I found this movie to be very lighthearted and slightly romantic, I would say a good movie for the older family (Rated PG-13 for some rude and sexual humor, nudity, language and smoking) but all in all quite a good movie.

From me.....a 4 out of 5.

Dark Knight Review

Posted by X

Well today I am going to do a movie review for the movie Dark Knight.

Michael Caine, Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman all return to take up their previous characters. But Katie Holmes has been replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes. Now I personally think Katie Holmes is a alright actress but she has been replaced by someone that plays the role even better.
Now this movie is not a movie for the young. It is a dark and sadistic tale from Gotham city. Heath Ledger's performance in this movie is astounding, he fits into the role of The Joker far better any version of him I have ever seen much better than Jack Nicholson . It is a shame that he had to leave us, but at least he left us with a great performance to remember him.
This movie rated at M is really I would say at the most R16 at the least R13, The Joker in this movie has a very much more sadistic persona.

I must say that I did thoroughly enjoy this movie, it was the sort of movie that sucked you in and had you waiting on the edge of your seat till the very last minute.

From me..... a 4 1/2 out of 5.

A Little Story

Posted by X

This is a story I had to write for English, it is a prequel to Watership down

Writers Intention.
To show why the Character General Woundwort from Watership Down is such a cold hearted brute.

Attack on the Warren

A loud sound filled the early morning air. An ear splitting screech echoed through the tunnels of the Warren.

Woundwort’s eyes flickered open. His peaceful dreams of green pastures shattered by the essence of reality. Woundwort slowly rose from his place of rest and staggered to the side of the small dark hole that surrounded him. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, a black figure on the opposite side of the tunnel grew clearer.

Woundwort slowly moved closer to the still figure. He did not know what it was but a familiar smell entered his head with each breath the smell of blood. He brushed his nose against the figure and pulled back with a sharp yelp. He had brushed up against wet fur…

Warm wet fur.

Another loud shot pierced the air. Woundworts long rounded ears pricked up at the sound. Each strand of His fur tensed as the sound echoed through the Warren. As the echoes of the shot faded into the darkness a soft call could be heard. The call faint and comforting grew louder with each passing moment until a familiar sound could be heard.

“Worty! Worty!”

“Mom?” Woundwort yelled, “Mom is that you?”

“Worty! Worty!” His Mother wailed, “We have to leave!”

Woundwort ran to the sound of his Mother’s voice. Within a short while he burst into an open clearing. As Woundwort looked around he saw the sun rising which tainted the sky blood red.

“Worty? Thank goodness you are alright!”

Woundwort spun around to see his mother standing limply. Her thick brown fur blotched with dark red stains. But her looked into her eyes, in her eyes he saw in pain, he saw courage. Beside her lay a body, lying on its side. Every few seconds it’s arteries let go of another pulse of blood which drenched the surrounding grass with blood.

“Who is that...?” Woundwort whimpered.

Woundwort’s words faded away as a sharp piercing howl cracked through the morning air.

“Worty you have to leave,” A stern look appeared on her face, “The hunters are here. Leave now! Head for the Downs I will meet you there...”

“Who is that…?” Woundwort crept towards the body, “No… It couldn’t be”

“Yes...Yes Worty it is... But you must leave now!”

Woundwort couldn’t move. He didn’t want to move. He stared deep into his father’s clouded eyes.

“Woundwort! Leave Now!”

Woundwort slowly turned his body around and walked past entrance of the warren and towards the forest that enclosed it.

Another shot rang in Woundworts ears. Woundwort jumped but not because of the shot. He jumped because of a loud growling that had echoed after the shot.

Suddenly a large beast tackled Woundwort biting him on the neck. Woundwort tried to yell for help but the pain from the jaws held back his scream. His vision slowly dissolved into black and only sound could be heard. A slight cry sounded from behind him and the jaws released their grip. As Woundworts vision returned he saw his mother in fierce combat with a Dog.

“Worty run!” She Cried

A surge of anger filled Woundwort, He look at his mother he felt no pity. She hadn’t cared enough to save his father, why should he care enough to help her. He turned and ran.

As he reached the edge of the surrounding forest he turned his head back towards his mother and saw the dog deliver the final blow. With its jaws wrapped around her head, it snapped them together with a frightful force. A bone shattering crunch echoed throughout the field. Woundwort looked on, he felt only anger. The family that had cared for him, had been split. All that he knew and love had changed…Forever…
